Fixing Stuck Zippers

Updated over a year ago

Have you ever been excited to wear your dress, only to find the zipper stuck? Don't worry, you're not alone. Zippers can be tricky, especially on fitted dresses. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you tackle this common wardrobe malfunction.

Before you start, remember it's important to take care of the garment and yourself while trying to fix a stuck zipper. Be patient and gentle.

Some Pro Tips Before Zipping In

  1. Make sure you have help when putting on the dress.

  2. Fasten the hook and eye closure.

  3. Lift your breasts into the cups of the dress and make sure that the garment is sitting correctly.

Please try the dress on once more following the above steps. If this does not resolve the issue, please continue to the next step!

If the fabric is stuck in the zipper...

If you notice the fabric of your dress is stuck in the zipper, try these steps:

  1. Gently pull the fabric away from the zipper. Be sure to do carefully to avoid damaging the garment.

  2. Wiggle the zipper back and forth. Again, be sure to go slowly to avoid tearing the garment.

If the zipper is stuck on the track...

If you notice the zipper is stuck on its track, rub the zipper track with chapstick or a bar of soap. Be careful not to get it on the garment! Then, try using the zipper again.

If the above doesn't work, try rubbing a bit of graphite (from a pencil) on the track. Gently try to zip up and down a couple of times (again, be careful not to get graphite on the garment). Then, try using the zipper again.
